Interested in Escaping the City?

When I first heard about EscapeTheCity.org I thought it was a “green environmentalist” type movement for people who want to quit the urban way of life.

For people who want to downsize and go and live in the countryside, surrounded by solar power, windmills and growing their own produce.

How to Escape the City

Escape The City is nothing to do with that.

The name comes from the “city” as in  City of London – which is the UK’s primary financial district.

Escape The City is about breaking out of the corporate nine to five, especially with large City financial institutions.

Escape The City is a community for corporate professionals who want to do something different.

It was started by two UK graduates in 2010 called Dom Jackman and Rob Symington. Both were dissatisfied with their jobs in London’s financial sector. They both quit their corporate jobs to start their own initiative to help other people find viable alternatives to the conventional corporate nine to five with large companies that tends to be standard-issue for most graduates nowadays.

Within just one year the site has grown enormously and now has over 30 000 members.

Escapethecity.org is effectively an online bourse or database for opportunities with smaller companies, start-ups, social organizations, charities. The positions listed are located both in the UK as well as throughout the world. You can find both paid and unpaid volunteer or intern positions listed on the site.

The aim is to help people find worthwhile work that they are passionate about and which inspires, excites and fulfills them as well as having a positive impact in the world.

Escape The City is for people who are looking for practical alternatives to the conventional nine-to-five. In particular, for people who are stuck in so-called “good-jobs” with large financial institutions and blue chip companies in the City of London and elsewhere.

Escape The City aims to help people achieve MORE than what they are able to in their current jobs. And finding opportunities that allow you to do this.

So if you’re stuck in a corporate nine to five job with a big corporate company where you don’t feel fulfilled or appreciated, and you want to find a viable alternative, then you should definitely take a look at Escape The City.

You said “nine to five” three times! In fact, hardly anyone in the city works nine to five! Here I am working at five in the morning. I want to escape!

  2. Kevin says:

That’s why it’s called “nine to five” – nine in the morning til five the following morning! ;-)
